Westhoff Motorsports Captures Second Place in the 2007 MORE Desert Racing Series

December 10, 2007 – After taking some time off from behind the wheel of his own 5/1600 in 2006 to step up and build a brand new state-of-the-art 1-2/1600, Joey Westhoff got back behind the wheel for the 2007 MORE Desert Series in his #1691 1-2/1600.

Joey Westhoff and the entire Westhoff Motorsports team tested the car to the limits and got the "new car bugs" worked out in no time. After a few strong finishes Westhoff Motorsports put the #1691 into second place in the battle for the 2007 points championship. Coming into the final race of the 2007 season, the MORE Toys for Tots Holiday 200, Westhoff Motorsports was holding onto second place by a mere five points. The entire team knew that this race weekend had to be flawless in order to finish in second place for the season.

The clouds thickened over the racecourse Thursday night as the team caravanned to Barstow in search of a strong finish for their first season in the new racecar. The downpour began early Friday morning as the sun was beginning to rise and never let up until the sun set. As soon as it lightened up Westhoff Motorsports made their way to tech inspection in hopes of getting back before the rain started again. Luckily enough the car didn't get too soaked and was back in the pit and tucked in for the night. Come race day the clouds dissipated and Westhoff Motorsports was ready to battle not only the other 19 cars in class but the mud and water that filled the Barstow desert. Joey Westhoff and co-driver Brittany Sanchez buckled into their Mastercraft 3G's and prepared for a wet and cold day. The #1691 1-2/1600 started second to last off the starting line and by the end of the first lap they made their way into 8th place.

At the half way point Brittany got out and handed the co-driving duties over to Matt Wasluskas. Joey and Matt ran a clean lap and on the start of the small loop the top adjuster sheared off, leaving them with poorly working front suspension. On the next lap, the two tried to dodge a rock that had been kicked onto the course but hit it with the right front beam. The two dealt with the car and charged hard to the finish. Only a few minutes out of second, Westhoff Motorsports finished third at the Holiday 200 and second in points for the 2007 MORE Desert Racing season.
